Narrative
ROCKVILLE, MD – A three-vehicle crash along the interstate in Montgomery County, Maryland, killed two people and hurt another early Friday morning.
The crash happened sometime before 4:45 a.m. on the northbound side of I-270 just past Falls Road. This is south of Route 28.
Police say that a northbound BMW collided with a Toyota SUV. The SUV was then struck by a pickup truck. The force of the second crash caused the SUV to rotate and catch fire.
Medics transported the 50-year-old driver of the SUV to the hospital with unspecified injuries.
Both the front and rear passengers of the SUV, thought to been the driver’s teen children, became entrapped in the vehicle and died at the scene.
The driver of the BMW fled the scene of the collision but left their vehicle along the interstate.
The driver of the pickup truck did not require hospitalization.
A full investigation is underway.
